Dry and Smoky

IT’S DRY SEASON here in Ukarumpa and we have gone over two weeks with no rain. While our rain tank is still half full a number of people’s tanks are drying up, which is a concern since everyone here depends on rain for drinking water. Please pray that God will bring some rain. This is also the time Papua New Guineans around the valley burn areas in which to plant their gardens and the kids also burn dry grass (“just for fun”, says Kairu). So when this burning happens very near our center, it makes for VERY smoky days. Here are a couple of pictures from last week to show you the air quality.

  1. That air looks very unhealthy and the burning sure is not a good/safe idea. Certainly will send up prayers for rain! Be careful and take care!!

  3. Hey, Brena, It looks like LA 30 years ago. Not pleasant! …or healthy. May God be gracious to all of you and send the rain as he did for Elijah. Amen! David and Carolyn

  4. Wow! That looks like L.A. skies. ☺ I didn’t realize no rain in so few days would hurt as much. I guess that makes sense in a tropical setting when you can rely on the local governments to supply regular water. We’re going on about 40 days with no rain, but when you’re on City water, you don’t notice it. Hope y’all are doing well otherwise!

  9. Oh, my! Here in CA it is so hot…heat wave…and, lots of wild fires. We have none near here in Banning.
